Paul Taylor

Ideas words & pictures.

I’ve been in and around the creative industry my whole working life. Had a camera in my hand since I was 12. Developed campaigns for banks, government departments, biscuits & potato chips. I can name things, write stories about them, think strategically about them, have ideas for them and take still or moving pictures of them.

Photography

I’ve been taking photographs forever. It wasn’t until I was freelancing as a creative that I thought to add it to my repertoire professionally. Just wish I’d done it sooner. I love photographing people who don’t really like being photographed – which is most people. I reckon I’ve got a good feel for capturing these folks authentically – whether they’re in a band, working in an office, the social services, a retirement village or on a fishing boat.

It’s the huge range of different people that makes it so awesome.

I love going into spaces I wouldn’t normally go and capturing what’s happening there naturally.

Creative development & execution

Sometimes I do everything. That’s the creative thought and campaign line if there is one, then the idea and script and eventually shooting and editing the thing. It’s pretty streamlined.

When required, I just get a bigger crew and camera and helicopters and catering if we need them and I’ll just direct what I’ve come up with, and sometimes, what someone else has come up with. Generally, I’ll edit these jobs as well.

And sometimes, I’ll just be a freelance director for your ad, content or even your kids news channel.
